I Need A Bigger Bowl!

As Skeleton Sam, it’s safe to say I’ve got a candy corn problem—but hey, can you blame me? Just look at this overflowing bowl! No matter how much I shovel into my skeletal hands, it seems like the candy corns just keep coming. Clearly, this tiny bowl isn’t cutting it anymore. I think it’s time to upgrade to something bigger—much bigger. Until then, I’ll just keep enjoying this sweet, sugary downpour, even if it means getting buried under a mountain of candy corn!

How to Store Candy Corn and Keep It Fresh

A bigger bowl solves one problem, but leaving candy corn out in the open creates another: it goes stale. Here’s how I keep my stash soft, sweet and ready.

How Long Does Candy Corn Last?

  • Unopened bag: about 9 months.
  • Opened bag: about 3 to 6 months at room temperature, stored away from heat and light.
  • Homemade candy corn: eat it within a week or two, since it has no preservatives.

Those are guidelines from food safety experts, so always check the date on the bag too.

The Best Way to Store It

  • Move opened candy corn into an airtight container, like a glass jar with a tight lid or a heavy-duty zip bag.
  • Keep it somewhere cool, dry and dark. A pantry beats a sunny counter.
  • Keep it away from strong-smelling foods. Candy corn can pick up odors.
  • Store it on its own. Mixing it with chocolate or moist, chewy candies can change the texture of both.
  • Some fans freeze candy corn to enjoy it year-round. Let it come back to room temperature in its sealed container so condensation doesn’t make it sticky.

How to Tell It’s Stale

Stale candy corn turns hard, dull or sticky, and it may smell off. It isn’t usually dangerous, just not much fun to eat. Don’t toss it, though. Old candy corn is perfect for crafts like a candy corn mosaic or a candy corn wreath.

So yes, I still need a bigger bowl. But now it has a lid.
